Setup in 1972, the University of Texas’ Health Science Center at Houston has a School of Nursing which is ranked one of the best nursing schools in the country. It is one of the six academic units that the University Of Texas Health Science Center at Houston has, the other five include the Dental Branch, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, The School of Public Health, Medical School and School of Health Information Sciences. The campus is located in the Medical center which allows the students to use the resources of a well established health science center and medical center.

The School of Nursing offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing, Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice. It also has over 800 students with about 166 new nurses and 130 nurses with graduate degrees every year. Over 6000 nurses have graduated since the school was established.

The mission of the school is to be a model of excellence. It aims to improve the health of the people in the state of Texas, the country and the global community by educating professional nurses and innovative scientists to discover advances in nursing. To this end, they educate professional nurses in interdisciplinary academic as specialists and generalists. They also create, apply and evaluate new knowledge of nursing, the provide evidence based nursing care and they develop nursing and interdisciplinary models for health care. They also address the health needs of the community at large and provide nursing leadership in scholarship and health community.

The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Nursing aims to fulfill the mission of the institute by becoming one of the leading schools of nursing in the country and providing scholarships to students that aim to discover and learn nursing knowledge.
