Internet Service provider Black Internet is reportedly appealing the decision made by a district court where the former is disallowed to provided bandwidth and unlimited hosting services to torrent tracker The Pirate Bay.

A Stockholm district court has decided in August this year that the torrent tracker, one of the most visited sites on the web, should be disconnected from the internet following several civil actions filed by a number of entertainment companies against the site.

Black Internet, a dedicated bandwidth services provider, was told by the court that it could pay up to $71,000 in fines if it fails to follow the directives. The company abided with the decision at first but decided later on that it would appeal the decision.

Company officials reasoned that the decision could serve as precedence to future cases that could be filed to other internet service providers and other sites.

Victor Mller, Black Internet Chief Executive Officer, stated recently that they were the first operator in the country to stop providing internet service to someone. He stressed that they wanted to know if this was a right thing to do.

The Court of Appeal will have a say in terms of overturning the decision of the lower courts. However, since the decision is not yet made, the district court’s decision stays in effect.

Mller said that they are banking on principle rather than on the directive whether they can provide services to a torrent site or not.
